Ukrainian refugee dies in Hungary – VIDEO
The Romanian press first reported on Sunday that Hungarian authorities had refused to let a bus full of Ukrainians into Hungary for hours. It took 7 hours for the refugees to cross the border, and then a 62-year-old woman died, Magyar Hang reports.
The bus was kept waiting for seven hours at the Pete-Csengersima border crossing because three children did not have biometric passports. The Hungarian newspaper pointed out that the possible lack of biometric passports could not have affected the smoothness of the border crossing, as the handling of missing documents is not done at border crossing points, but at the collection points.
A video of the case was posted on the Romanian news portal presasm.ro:
According to a report by the Romanian news portal, a total of 61 refugees were transported by buses with Romanian license plates that entered from Ukraine Romania at Sighetu Marmatiei (Máramarossziget) on Friday night. They then went to the Romanian-Hungarian border, where they were kept waiting for hours during border controls.
They then went to the Romanian-Hungarian border, where they were kept waiting for hours during border controls.
According to witnesses, the woman had a heart attack, the Romanian portal reports, when the Hungarian authorities informed the passengers that, due to lack of proper documents, the refugees would be taken to a special centre until their identity was clarified.
Police reaction
On Sunday evening, the ORFK’s response to the Magyar Hang’s questions arrived. In it they write:
“The deceased 61-year-old woman, a Ukrainian citizen, entered Hungary at the Csengersima Road Border Crossing Point with her daughter-in-law and 33 other passengers at 3.40 a.m. on 5 March 2022 as a passenger of a bus of Romanian nationality. His death was not immediately preceded by an accident on the bus, but in a public place, 62 km from the border crossing point, in Aranyosapáti, at 7.57 a.m. (time elapsed: 4.17 minutes). His resuscitation was started by two policemen, who simultaneously notified the ambulance service, and continued by the ambulance unit that arrived. She died during transport to hospital at 9.22 am. The primary cause of death was reported to be respiratory arrest due to an epileptic seizure.
There are still many question marks over the case, as the time from crossing the border, i.e. 4 hours 17 minutes, is a much longer distance for any bus, so it is likely that the passengers were again waiting for several hours.
